Swarovski Binoculars Review
We spend a lot of time talking about and using Swarovski binoculars, here are some our most commonly shared reviews and information of the binoculars made by Swarovski Optik.

Swarovski EL Binoculars
To get a glimpse of how far binocular technology has progressed you only need to look at the Swarovski Optik flagship EL binocular. This incredible instrument ushered in an abundance of landmark technology that simply turned the high end market upside down upon its introduction. While many of the EL's important advancements and features are discussed in great detail, see Swarovski Binoculars: EL Review Article, we would like to take the opportunity to give you a brief highlight of a couple of the more important features. In the end you can draw your own conclusions about this great binocular, but for now we think is worth stating that when you consider the overall design, construction and optical performance of these binoculars it's easy to see why the Swavorski EL is the overwhelming high-end favorite in the market today.

Eliminate the Bridge: The first thing you'll notice about the EL is that it looks a little different then most other binoculars you've seen. Swarovski made a significant design improvement by eliminating the large single hinge of the binocular, often referred to as the bridge, and replaced it with two small hinges on each end. This created a big empty space in the middle of the binocular, a space that's ideally suited for your fingers. This allows your hand to grip the binocular in a very natural fashion resulting in a firm and comfortable binocular hold. You can literally hold the EL in your hand and swing it around with all your strength and you would not feel like you were about to loose your grip. Try that with a traditional roof prism and you'll be back in the market looking for your next optic investment. It's also worth noting that the Swarovski EL is extremely easy to use with one hand. With the open body design and the large easy to turn focus knob all you need is one hand to do your viewing, leaving the other for additional tasks.

Swarobright: Arguably Swarobright is one of the most significant breakthroughs in binocular technology ever accomplished. It did more to advance optical performance then any other single binocular invention in the last 20 years. While Swarobright is discussed in detail below it essentially can be summarized by saying that Swarovski invented a process of creating its own mirror on the prism by the deposition of extremely thin layers of rare materials and in the end created its own mirror perfectly optimized to reflect the full spectrum of light which dramatically increased overall light transmission and provided for the truest color fidelity.

Swarovski Binoculars EL 10x42 Binocular Review
The EL 10x42 WB has consistently proved itself to be the favorite of American sportsmen, birders, naturalists and just about any outdoor enthusiast fortunate enough to own an EL binocular. Representing the majority of EL sales the 10x42 is preferred about 10 to 8 over the 8.5x42 EL binocular alternative. The overall combination of a 4.2mm exit pupil, which is large enough for good low light performance, and 10 times magnification, which really pulls in the image view, delivers a performance profile that really is hard to beat.

Swarovski Binoculars EL 8.5x42 Binocular Review
While EL 8x42 WB doesn't sell quite as robustly as the EL 10x42 it does offer a combination of performance specifications that are ideally suited for some optic adventurers. Unless you're into splitting hairs the size and weight of these two models are essentially identical and Swarovski publishes no difference in optical performance, and as far as our review of this binocular is concerned nor do we, so the difference really does come down to a couple of performance specifications, and more importantly their practical implications. First, since the EL 8.5x42 doesn't pull the optical image quite as far towards you it has a larger field of view at any given distance. In fact, the field of view is about 15% larger then its EL 10x42 companion model: (EL 8.5x42 390' @ 1000 yards, EL 10x42 330' @ 1000 yards) It is also important to note that when a binocular has a larger field of view it is generally easier to follow subjects on the move, so if your going to be looking at fast paced action this binocular specification can be important to remember. Additionally, it should also be noted that a few people tend to experience a little dizziness while panning around with binoculars, if you're one of these folks then a binocular with a larger field of view can really help. One final point on field of view; it has been our experience that children and/or adults who do not use binoculars on a regular basis tend to be able to find what they are looking for more easily when a binocular with a larger field of view is used. Second, the EL 8.5x42 has a larger exit pupil, 4.95mm, as compared to the 4.2mm exit pupil of the 10x42 EL binocular. While an exit pupil of this size is not essential for low light viewing conditions, the larger size can help. However, the main benefit from an exit pupil of this size is that it makes for a very comfortable viewing experience. In general, it is a great deal easier to keep the pupil of your eye within the circle of light coming out of the back of the binocular when it is larger rather then smaller. This can be very important if you tend to have a bit of tremor or shake in your hands, or if your going to be using your binoculars from a platform that might be moving around, like the deck of a boat. A larger binocular exit pupil can also be a factor in eliminating viewers fatigue when glassing for extended periods of time.
While these points sound appealing most people tend to favor the additional magnification of the EL 10x42 model, after all magnification is the point!

Swarovski EL Binoculars 8x32 Binocular Review
The 8x32 binocular configuration has been a time proven favorite and the EL 8x32 takes this classic to a new level. With its reduced size and minimal weight this binocular is a welcomed companion for those long days in the field, and when you consider the additional benefits of the advanced EL open body design you really have a binocular that's a dream to use. Additionally, the 8x32 brings together a combination of performance specifications that make this binocular even more attractive for all around use. For instance, with a 4mm exit pupil it is very well suited for even the most demanding poor/low light conditions and with a 420' field of view at 1000 yards the view from this binocular is remarkably comfortable as subjects are easy to find and follow. In our opinion nothing could be worse than someone making an investment in a quality binocs only to end up leaving it behind because it's a burden to carry and hold, so if you find yourself wanting for something a bit smaller and lighter then the Swarovski EL 8x32 binocular may just be what you're looking for.

Swarovski Binoculars EL 10x32 Binocular Review
While the Swarovski EL 10x32 binocular is a model that sell less robustly it can be the ideal binocular for some applications. For instance, let us presume that you have decided that for size and weight considerations the mid size 32mm EL is the size of binocular you are going to purchase. You should then examine how and where you will be using your bino most often. While most new Swarovski binocular owners find themselves using this incredible optical instrument more often than the originally envisioned, most buyers start their shopping with a particular application in mind. If your primary intended purpose is to use it for distance viewing, or if you want a greater amount of binocular magnification for image detail, then the EL 10x32 may be your best binocular choice. Just keep in mind that with an exit pupil of 3.2mm this binocular will have an image that is less bright then some of the other Swarovski EL binocular alternatives. However, remember that the binocular we are discussing is the Swarovski EL, and regardless of which one of these Swarovski binoculars you choose all of them are marvels of image brightness!

EL Binoculars versus the SLC Binocular
A common question asked by people considering these two different Swarovski Binoculars are, “What are the differences between the SLC and the EL models?”, a great question considering that both are world class instruments and that the EL is sold at a price that reflects its status. Therefore, we figured we’d spend a little time pointing out the differences we know about. It’s important to note that some of the differences between the two models may not be fully disclosed by Swarovski since the EL binocular clearly enjoys the dominate position in the market place. Listed below are some of the more important differences and similarities between these two binoculars.

Internal Binocular Housing: In order to lighten the overall weight of the binocular they built the EL with a magnesium frame instead of the aluminum frame used on the SLC binocular models. Magnesium is very strong and very light and thus was a good choice for the top of the line model. Overall it reduced the weight about 10%, (10x42 EL 27.5 oz. versus 10x42 SLC 30.7 oz.), which is significant to some folks and no big deal to others. This is an important part of the cost difference between these two Swarovski binoculars.

Optical Quality:When the EL was introduced it took the high-end binocular market by storm primarily because it introduced a ground breaking technology Swarovski Optik calls Swarobright which significantly improved light transmission and brightness. When first introduced the EL was noticeably brighter then the SLC binocular in side by side view comparisons. However, now that the SLC models also come with Swarobright this difference has been eliminated.

While the EL is reportable constructed with a quality of glass that pushes the limits of know science we must admit that its hard to discern the difference between the view of the EL and the SLC binoculars. Perhaps the differences are measurable in the laboratory, but are not obvious to the practical observer. Both Swarovski binoculars are simply remarkable!

Ergonomics:By eliminating the binocular bridge Swarovski freed up the middle of the binocular for your fingers. This is a significant design difference between the two models, and most other binoculars for that matter, and one that you should consider seriously. A Swarovski binocular of this status is going to require an investment, and you should always want your new friend to be a welcomed companion, not one that ends up making you feel tired at the end of a long adventure. As far a user comfort and ease of use the EL binocular has no equal. The feel and hold of the SLC is similar to most other high end models, not bad, just not the EL!

Close Focus :In response to the wants and needs of birders and passionate nature enthusiasts Swarovski significantly increased the close focus capability of the EL. When compared to the 10x42 EL binocular here is how the 10x42 SLC measures up, (10x42 EL 7’ Close Focus versus 10x42 SLC 13’ Close Focus), so if you’ve got looking at plants, butterflies, or other things not far away then the Swarovski EL may be your best choice.

Quality Standards and Innovations
The quality standards employed by this company are about as impressive as it gets. A Swarovski binocular will not ship unless it is absolutely perfect. All Swarovski binoculars are 100% inspected by them prior to shipment to market; returns for out-of-the-box defects are completely unheard of. Every Swarovski binocular shipped by us is carefully packed in sturdy boxes so our customers are assured that their purchase will arrive at their doorstep in absolutely perfect condition. Some of the quality standards and innovations published by Swarovski Optik are as follows:

* Swarovski will only use ultra precise lenses and prisms as the building blocks of their optical systems. This obsession with using only the finest component materials results in binoculars that are nothing short of amazing. Each and every binocular model will deliver the truest color fidelity with high contrast distortion free images and razor sharp details - all the way to the edge of the viewing field.

* All Swarovski binoculars are designed to maintain complete functionality even in the most extreme conditions such as rain, snow, dust, and mud. They will even continue to function within extreme temperature ranges, published range is: -4˚ to 131˚ F

* Swarovski Binoculars Swarobright: This is the advanced prism mirror coating technology that revolutionized the high end binocular market. This unique coating system drastically increased light transfer and allowed for the truest color fidelity. It replaced silver mirror prisms which perform less favorably in light transfer and usually produce images with a more yellow tinge. The Swarobright coating reflects equally well across the entire light spectrum and delivers the ultimate in natural color reproduction.

* Swarotop & Swarodur Coatings: Each and every time light strikes the surface of a binocular lens there is an opportunity for instrument light loss due to reflection, this undesirable effect reduces light transfer and adversely effects binocular brightness. At least one of these two patented lens coatings are applied numerous times to each and every air to glass lens surface. This process reduces the normal light loss reflection from upwards of 6% on each lens to less than 0.2% on each lens resulting in an binocular image that is exceptionally bright.

* Swarovski Optik ISO Certified: Each Swarovski binocular made is produced in a factory which is ISO 9001/2000 certified, and in 2000 the company received the prestigious ISO 14001 environmental management certification. Without question this company is respected as one of the most innovative and quality minded manufacturers of binoculars.
